Harley Quinn Anonymous 07/13/2020 (Mon) 23:30:44 No. 2860 [Reply] [Last]
Let's discuss everyone's favorite character Harley Quinn. DC and WB have been shilling this character for a decade, but she seems to be having a really rough year. Her ongoing comic is cancelled, her movie flopped, and her cartoon hasn't been renewed. What steps will the take next to shill this character.

>>16639 And that's the problem that ties back to Harley Quinn too. These fucking companies & people just don't give a shit. They don't respect what actually came before. They don't want to adapt. They want to make fanfiction completely detached from the legacy of writing actual creators put the work into.

I used to like her a lot, but she is just Joker' sidekick with great character design and basically that's why everyone liked her in the first place. >>3303 >have continually tried to adapt Batman Beyond, even though it never quite works That's because those comics are made by talentless hacks who never watched the entire cartoon series and also BB is cursed franchise. >>16413 >Waller Is there version of her that doesn't suck? Or she doomed to be shitty character as she is boring glowniggeress instead of fun supervillain. >>3205 >her outfit quite generic You mean her original outfit?! Because that, the Royal Flush gang (from Batman Beyond) and BB Batsuit are easily some, if not the best designs by Bruce Timm, they're beautifully simple and sleek and their color scheme is just prefect.

Halloween is over. Hopefully many had trick or treaters this year. Though assuredly you have left over candy aplenty. But since the season of spooks is now over & we face the true horrors tomorrow come the election, why not skip right to the Christmas festivities? Starting with Klaus. Grant Morrison's attempt of creating an origin & mythology for the jolly fat man in red.

Shows that Never Were Anonymous 08/02/2021 (Mon) 02:11:26 No. 16167 [Reply]
Most shows start off with a pilot episode, but a lot of shows never get past the pilot stage. And hell, sometimes they never even get past the concept stage in someone's portfolio. Which is a shame because a lot of failed pilots are miles above the quality of stuff we see broadcasted today. Do you have any favorites? Know any obscure ones people never talk about? Anything you're just really disappointed never made the cut? Some well known ones: >The Modifyers >Danger Planet >Constant Payne (that one about a girl and her spy dad that got turned down because of a scene resembling the 9/11 attacks) >Welcome to Eltingville >The Amazing Screw-on Head >A Kitty Bobo Show My personal favorite is Korgoth of Barbaria, a Conan the Barbarian-inspired fantasy farce featuring incredible animation and a massive cast of talented voices. Created by Aaron Springer and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, it was originally picked up by Adult Swim but got dropped because of how much it cost to produce. Another favorite of mine is 3 Dog Band, which just had very fun visuals and great music.

Secret Identity Anonymous 07/31/2021 (Sat) 19:40:21 No. 16094 [Reply]
Is the cliche of characters having to juggle different lives really old hat? Or do certain people today have difficulty understanding the purpose of secret identities and the ramifications of doing away with them?

>>16320 It was an edgyfest done by someone hating superheroes. And it's an universe with civilians being worse than marvel ones.
(710.25 KB 609x585 Flash meets Flash.png)

There are plenty of characters that don't have secret identities, with the Fantastic Four being the most notable examples in the comics, since not only are they the foundation of the modern Marvel universe, but also they never had secret identities. Then of course there are cases like Iron Man that casuals know about (even if they don't know that he did have a secret identity for like 40 years). But it depends on the characters and their personalities and what stories you want to tell with them. Remember right before Rebirth when Superman revealed his secret identity? It sucked. It did away with elements that were central to the character, particularly his regular life that keeps him as a down to earth guy. The Fantastic Four are celebrities in their regular lives, and Iron Man was a celebrity before he was a superhero. Making Superman a full time celebrity would destroy a significant aspect of the character. Having everyone know Superman is Clark Kent but not hassle him all the time wouldn't be believable. And there are characters like that, but frankly, they're usually secondary characters, and I think if they were focused on harder, people wouldn't buy it. There are also problems with characters that go through crazy shit that should affect their regular lives, but then they go back to having a secret identity. Like in the Death of Superman story, they mention near the end that Superman was actually only dead for like two weeks, in-universe. So when Clark Kent shows back up, it's kind of believable. Hal Jordan was either Parallax or dead for ten years IRL, which must be a significant amount of time in-universe. How the fuck does he go back to having a secret identity? Or does he not have a secret identity anymore? Shouldn't all the regular people be scared of him for what he did as Parallax? I've read pretty much every Green Lantern story (including Green Lantern Corps and that Ion miniseries) from Rebirth to Blackest Night, and I don't think I've seen this addressed, when it really should have been the first thing to address as soon as Hal came back to life. This goes double for Barry Allen. He was dead for years in-universe. How did he just get his life back, including his secret identity? Iris West was dead for even longer. Enough time for Barry to get over her and get married again and then die and for his sidekick to grow up and have kids of his own. And when she came back, she did use a secret identity because the world thought Iris West was dead. But then eventually she became Iris West again. And then when Flashpoint happened Iris forgot that she knew Barry's identity, and presumably forgot that she was married to him and that they were both "dead" for decades. Okay, fine, I can accept that. But there was a period before Flashpoint when this made no sense. And then they remembered most of this stuff after Rebirth, so presumably everyone else remembered too, and then it didn't make sense again. It would be easier to just say the entire world knows Barry Allen is The Flash and Iris West is a time traveler from the 30th century. But that would destroy a significant aspect of the character. Also there was the time Wally West revealed he was The Flash, and that didn't work out long term. And he was a pretty different character from Barry anyway, since he was a superhero since he was a kid, and didn't have much of a life before he became one. And with all the de-aging and disappearing for decades that has happened to the Justice Society, none of them could have secret identities anymore, right? But then why aren't people coming to their door and hassling them all the time? I guess they have all sorts of things set up to protect them from supervillains and stuff, but using things like that to keep regular people away from them doesn't seem very heroic. Why isn't the paparazzi harassing Alan Scott about how it feels to be a 100 year old man who looks at his children and feels compelled to tell them that he loves putting penises in his butt? Surely that would be quite a story. He should never be able to have a moment's peace. Even if he wasn't the world's first superhero. >>16148 >Only reason writers didn't do it is few early heroes had family to reveal it to (Superman's parents live far away from where he lives) Superman's parents were dead on Earth-Two and Earth-One. Man of Steel is the one that kept them alive until the present day, in 1986. Also, originally they said the people who found him just gave him to an orphanage. I don't get how nobody at the orphanage didn't know who Superman was. Maybe they did and just kept their mouths shut. When they introduced the concept of Superboy in 1945, they said that the people who left him at the orphanage regretted it and returned to pick him up shortly after. The Kents then knew his secret identity in all the Superboy stories, but they died before he was an adult. >>16173 >The audience knows that status quo changes regarding it don't end up sticking and that they do not tend to lead to shake ups in anything else. There are cases where it does happen, like Iron Man, Captain America, Flash, etc. Sometimes things get changed back after an extended period of time, but still.

Frank Miller gets cancelled from Thought Bubble Comic Convention by Twitter Anonymous 07/29/2021 (Thu) 23:14:03 No. 16004 [Reply]
No matter what you think of his later works, he is still a legend by any measure but twitter decided to cancel Frank Miller from the Thought Bubble (will likely be renamed Thought Police) comics convention because of "misogyny" and "anti-muslim hate". https://archive.is/yqOHk https://archive.is/LJpFb Have we started our second comic industry yet so we can remove these tumors in the industry. If you are cancelling Frank Miller for Anti-Muslim hate, then you might as well cancel every American who witnessed 9/11. Add another kindling to the pile so we can watch this industry burn. I wish Frank Miller would stop sucking but I'll defend him for achieving his legendary status and not let untalented hacks defame him for the glory that they couldn't achieve in their lives.

>>16134 >Frank Miller did nothing wrong. Well except that for the story he didn't place in a satisfying final boss. If this psudeo Batman story ended the way it should, with Batman pulling a full Marv and then beating the shit out of the corrupt globalists/banksters that back these types of groups or murdering a proxy for the Saudi Royal Family and/or the secret service of Pakistan, or murdering CIA agents for funding these guys in the first place, you'd have a more satisfying story. Which as I've mentioned before that's the normal story that Miller writes. And by pulling his punches his book doesn't offend, it just comes off a rather weak and semi limp wristed. The problem is that Miller never grasped what most nationalists / libertarians in the past decades knew. That terror is sadly driven by old busted strategic operations that our entrenched military industrial complexes refuse to be shut off along with corrupt NGO's. And that's not getting into the bullshit so called "migrant crisis" where false refugees from sub Saharan Africa and the Middle East treat Europe as a dumping ground for their economic failures and backed by globalists dumping money into said fake NGO's. The Miller of the Sin City/Martha/Washington Era (see the pages of 1 and 3 of Martha Washington Saves The World) would have bothered to address this shit, but the panicked old man who wrote Holy Terror after five years past it's due date, turned into a frightened stupid moron that thought the Patriot Act was good idea. If Theo Van Gogh was alive the first thing he'd do is tell him to read Camp of The Saints first then write Holy Terror. But then again, Miller is a later day libertarian and an FDR fan, so he'd probably not understand something like Camp of The Saints telling him that not all men are blank slates that can simply be molded by simply just being on the soil. But despite all of my complaints he didn't bend the knee to a little nobody shit whose works and books nobody buys nor will ever read, and that's far more important. But it will never be as badassed as the comic Pigman is, or it's artist Bosch Fawstin.

Comic Book Ages Anonymous 02/01/2021 (Mon) 13:09:45 No. 9332 [Reply]
Anyone have love for a specific "age" in comics? I've been reading the Silver/Bronze Age stuff and they're pretty goddamn good, they were silly and campy at times, but that's what made them so great, Superman duking it out with a Wizard, or Batman being injected with a drug that makes him lose the will to live, it's ridiculous, it's silly, but the way there were played and written they have weight.

In this next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Loki becomes an emasculated joke himself, the Time Variance Authority are strict, authoritarian (and diverse) time lords that are weak against fire, and those magical stones are nothing more than paperweights to the TVA. The entire MCU was all according to plan thanks to some space lizards called the Time-Keepers, including Thanos commiting immense genocide and allowing the Avengers to mess with time travel, and yet Loki stealing the magic cube is an absolute violation - no free will until Loki showed up. A whole slew of contradictions, inconveniences, and retconning in just the first episode!

>>14821 You realize that inheritance (wealth) was the basis of the athenian democracy that ended up beign the basis of our modern conception of rights and shit . It didn't being with human dignity. It began with wealth. But here you are willing to forgo that because you think you're going to be poor forever. Now a landtax is bad enough but everyone more or less has to admit that either an elaborate right of way system has to exist (and already largely does) or common roads have to built and maintained. But what is being built and maintained by a wealth tax? Is there a road? No. is it the 'common good' no because that money is not earmarked for anything. The only thing a wealth tax builds is more government. You see the issue here. It will never stop, you no longer have property, you've allowed the government to not only interfer with trade but with the ability to have wealth at all. It's untennable because when the only thing the governments ll use this shit for is to grow themselves (like pigs at a trough). And you know what the fat piggy government is going to say. Oink we need more money, your kids need less, you need less. All because idiots like you would rather be jealous and vindictive then hardworking. But hey, go for it. Keep telling people that if they have 8 apples they can only pass 7 to their kids, 6 , 4 , 3 , 2 apples to their kids. Eventually someone is just gonna beat the fuck out of government (and conversly the rich are going to be much better apple smugglers then you are you dumb shit.).
>>14832 The problem is the inheritance without hard work breeds decadence. Those who work hard have virtue, but by providing a soft life for their children means their children are raised without virtue. Their only virtue is hedonism bankrolled by the sweat of their ancestors.

It's also really weird seeing the wider world in the context of Courage the Cowardly Dog. It always felt more like a newspaper comic or a caricature instead of an actual, fully developed universe. Basically what this anon said >>14590. Remember Cyber Chase? They could have done the same sort of thing with this, maybe the gang gets in an accident in the desert and wakes up in Nowhere or some voodoo magic happens and they're pulled into Courage like an in-universe cartoon. Then they could have been drawn in a unique style that'd fit the darker tone. But that'd take money and effort
