Crossovers Anonymous 05/21/2020 (Thu) 18:57:55 No. 1341
Got a favourite? I remember reading Wolverine/The Darkness illustrated by Stjepan Sejic which is one of mine. Also, I would count Lobo vs The Mask, Batman Versus Predator and the Marshal Law crossover with Hellraiser.

>>1341 Can someone explain how this Invincible crossover worked? Are Image comics all in one universe?

>>1349 >Are Image comics all in one universe? I don't think so. I think that Invincible was supposed to be its own self contained thing. Though there are comics by Image comics and its various imprints that do share a common world things. Take the universe of Top Cow, the following characters inhabit the same wrorld: >Cyberforce >Hunter/Killer >Aphrodite IX >The Darkness >Witchblade >Angelus >Tom Judge/Rapture >Magdalena >Pitt List is by no means exhaustive
>>1360 But if it's it's own thing then how did this crossover happen? There wasn't a real explanation in the issue itself.
>>1369 Without having read the issue, it would be hard for me to say. If I were to hazard a guess, it would be merely a cynical ploy to showcase and drum up sales for the other series. We see this in comics as well as video games. For example, there was at one time that the game Puzzle and Dragons did a crossover with Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel to promote both their game and the anime. In terms of Western comics, there was that weird Attack on Titan/Avengers crossover, Attack on Avengers. The equivalent of someone who likes fried chicken and skittles deciding in infinite wisdom to put them both together in the same dish and wondering why people think it tastes strange.
>>1398 Problem is the Invincible crossover is canon while these examples are just non-canon promotional material.

>>1399 Speaking of crossovers that were not written...optimally. I would really ask you to look into Judge Dredd: Judgement Day which was a crossover with Strontium Dog involving a warlock who wanted to turn Earth into his own undead playground. Certainly not Garth Ennis' best work. Read Judge Dredd Case Files 17 and you will see what I am talking about. I recall reading that most things in the world Judge Dredd is canon including the crossover with Batman (Judgement in Gotham) and Judge Dredd vs. Aliens: Incubus.
.>>1341 Wasn't DC and Marvel planning to make crossovers again? What happened with that

>>1416 I think that was more of what certain creatives and fans said they wanted to see rather than something that was confirmed to happen. Though observing the success of the push for the Snyder of JSA cut which was initially campaigned for by fans and is now confirmed by the studio for release, anything now seems to be possible. I do miss Amalgam though. Dark Claw was my favourite. Well, apart from Strangefate. https://www.ign.com/articles/a-new-marvel-and-dc-crossover-comics-pros-want-to-make-it-happen

>>1369 First of all, I thought Image did have a universe. I'm a pleb and have only read the first year or two of Spawn, but right at the start there are tons of crossovers. Oh yeah, and the start of Savage Dragon immediately has crossovers too. Apparently everyone thought Youngblood was going to be a much more classic franchise than it turned out to be. Secondly, most crossovers even between universes just don't explain shit. Batman can meet the Punisher and they don't need to explain there's a multiverse at work. They just say Punisher went to Gotham.
>>1476 If it is one universe for these kind of super books then there's things that clash at times. Like The Darkness & Witchblade existing alongside Spawn.
>>1477 >Like The Darkness & Witchblade existing alongside Spawn. Forget about the rest of the Image universe, The Darkness crossover with FUCKING BATMAN is canon to the comics.
>>1478 That's nuts.

One comic crossover I like is Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. Originally, it was supposed to be a movie but Bruce Campbell turned it down so it got remade into a comic.
