With Keaton returning as the Bat, they're going to be putting out some sequel comics set after Batman Returns and a parallel series with Superman too. I wonder if its the same Batman Returns comic adaption that was based on the original screenplay but originally scrapped a couple years ago.
Do we know who writing either of them?
>>9718 The screenwriter for Batman, Sam Hamm, is coming back and the guy who did Batman 66 is writing Superman.
>>9715 >With Keaton returning as the Bat When did this happen? I hope they aren't going to try to shoehorn him into yet another DCCU attempt.
>>9757 Months back and yes they are.
>>9758 Please tell me they're doing TDKR or something tasteful and not a cashgrab.
>>9767 Flash movie seems to be based on Flashpoint so expect a disaster

>>9775 >Flashpoint again ENOUGH ALREADY!
>>9775 I liked Flashpoint, which means they're going to fuck it up aren't they?
>>9790 we've already got an animated Flashpoint movie and a take on it in the Flash TV series so yes the Flashpoint story was ultimately unnecessary; Brightest Day had provided a satisfying conclusion to the DC Universe preparatory to Nu52 but now everyone had to have a filler story to either bridge the gap or waste time while Flash reset the universe making matters worse, the Flashpoint universe's contents were typically more interesting than the same-as-it-ever-was Nu52 universe (making Thomas Wayne Batman? Martha the Joker? A new take on it). they should have given it the Silver Age reboot treatment instead of plodding on with the exact same characters sans-history as an aside, I'll credit the writers of Green Lantern; during Flashpoint they ran a story where the emotion beasts were enslaved by Krona and the rings run amuck. In the finale Sinestro endangers himself to save Hal and a GL ring chooses him on the spot, ending the GL story with his redemption
>>9791 >they should have given it the Silver Age reboot treatment instead of plodding on with the exact same characters sans-history Regardless of if you'd be right to find it more interesting than the same old characters just continuing on, those characters are the ones that are recognized and marketable. Resetting everyone to be different characters in a very different setting permanently would be a very, very risky move from a sales standpoint. I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to do that. People want to read about Bruce Wayne. Thomas Wayne Batman was cool and everything, but when adaptations come out, they're going to be about Bruce. Batman is Bruce Wayne, regardless of how many people also call themselves Batman. DC wants people to recognize the characters in their comics. Marvel tried to replace all their characters a few years later, and look how that turned out.
>>9793 I'm just saying, if you're going to reboot shit, reboot it consider Alan Scott vs Hal Jordan, Jay Garrick vs Barry Allen, etc. Both are beloved, both are iconic and both are referenced today (Alan Scott a little less frequently I'll admit) and let's not even get into just how much Superman's been changed over the decades despite staying Clark Kent all they changed with Nu52 was taking away the current plotline and built up history. And then half the writers failed to understand that and kept writing as though nothing was wrong. And then they abandoned Nu52 anyway to bring back the old universe with DC Rebirth Nu52 could have been an experimental line of 6-issue miniseries to gauge interest a la Marvel's New Universe in the 80s
The problem with Western comics is that everything is "connected", so any attempt to detach from the original is an exercise in futility. "Oh, you want to read the latest issue of the 'new' Superman? Well, we're going to bring back a character from over 50 years ago that you wouldn't know about unless you read the original comics, which you can't because we've never reprinted AC#1 and who knows what else." The Western comics are not going to get better until they manage to put their capeshit stories COMPLETELY on hold, and spend a few years making original comic series that are completely unrelated to each other and never crossover.
>>9798 >Oh, you want to read the latest issue of the 'new' Superman? Well, we're going to bring back a character from over 50 years ago that you wouldn't know about unless you read the original comics, which you can't because we've never reprinted AC#1 and who knows what else." Of all the problems with capeshit this is a non-issue. 1. kikepedia exists 2. they rarely pull obscure characters from history and when they do it's rare that it doesn't get reprinted even in a shitty form. Name one character this hasn't happened with.
>>9803 Aside from American comic books, can you name ANY other media where the advice given is to NOT start at the beginning and read the entire saga through to end in order to understand and enjoy the story?
>>9804 Your point? There's no preason to shit thats's retconned unless it stands out on it's own or it has some added value to you(i.e. you have an interest in capeshit history).
>>9805 *reason to read shit that's retconned
>>9804 Doctor Who, but that's largely by circumstance of many lost episodes rather than quality (lots of people say to just start with Baker, I say fuck you start at Pertwee and if you can get Hartnell you should absolutely start at the very beginning)
>>9817 Personally I say you should start with Peter Cushing.
>>9818 >Touching a Dalek I thought that was a terrible idea. At least that's what that one episode with the 9th doctor implied, when Rose burns her hand touching a broken Dalek and it repairs itself using her dna.
>>9818 a fever dream 6th Doctor was having (according to Cushing, who was attempting to line it up with canon) >>9831 possibilities: a: that danger is not present on every model of dalek b: it only happens when the dalek wants it to (considering that Rose's DNA led to the dalek being less of an asshole and thus abhorrent to itself, it almost seems a danger to the species if it were on all the time) c: hit it with a baseball bat and see what happens https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtUMnn0-4zw
