General Purpose 8chan Sitewide Meta Thread Anonymous Board owner 05/12/2022 (Thu) 02:37:48 Id: 9b4131 No. 5423
This cyclical thread is for all of the following: Bug Reports General Help 8chan Tech Support Board Migrations Suggestions and Feature Requests Global Site Announcements Transparency Reports General Site Meta Discussion Summoning the Admins Specific meta threads on this board and elsewhere are deprecated. If something is really important or urgent it may get its own sticky, otherwise post in here.
(1.92 MB 1075x1518 92739865_p0.png)

>>5423 First post for /sm/. Also a cyclical thread for all kinds of meta will be a huge pain in the ass, trust me. It's better to make non-cyclical threads and close the old ones after they reach a certain amount of posts. This makes searching and archiving important posts and announcements much easier.
(243.89 KB 1170x2080 Legal Adult Alina - 2547.jpg)

Second for advertising the Alina thread because I am a slow typer: >>>/site/5219 since my one on /b/ got deleted. Parias deleted 14 pictures from there, includes ones that were timestamped for age verification-- >>5424 Better than having it in /v/?
>>5424 That may turn out to be the case, in which event we'll spin one or two things (Tech support most likely) back to their own threads. /site/ was just getting cluttered to the point we weren't paying attention like we should, and so people used it less, so it was slow and we paid less attention, etc. and so forth. /v/ is great, but sitewide meta should be on the sitewide board.
>>5425 >Better than having it in /v/? Yes, but having a cyclical thread means that somebody needs to archive them often to avoid losing important posts that are automatically deleted after 600 replies. By having multiple threads with a defined limit it becomes easier to look for specific posts without having to depend on external archives. The closed threads could be "stored" in a separate board, similarly to how dead GG threads are moved to a read-only board at >>>/gg/. >>5426 Three simultaneous threads would be ideal. One for tech support (including the main site, Redchannit/Tor and 8chanTV), one for complaints against board/site staff and rules, and a read-only thread for site announcements (Lynxchan updates, changes in global rules, contests, janny applications, etc.) so it doesn't become a third general meta thread.
Question, what's the "recommended" or "best" browser for 8moe? Chrome based, Firefox based, or something else? (I've been having trouble viewing reply links with WaterFox classic). also, any recommendation for specific scripts? (I use violent monkey as my script manager)
>>5428 Librewolf or ungoogled chromium.
>>5428 I've found the latest versions of Firefox (literal troon developers aside) run the site flawlessly. Chrome on an old Windows 7 box does as well. I'd say 90% of our bug reports come from Waterfox or Palemoon users. Brave has also been tested here and worked fine, and the "open this link over TOR" functionality was occasionally handy.
(155.41 KB 750x1333 Legal Adult Alina - 2418.jpg)

>>5427 >somebody needs to archive them often I've been archiving the /v/Meta occasionally when I noticed the previous posts are sliding off and someone else hadn't done so anytime recently. Same can be done here, I suppose, assuming this is actually used for longer than a day or two? For example, the oldest post in the /v/Meta is 12 days old. That's plenty living time in a cyclical outside of announcements and such-- >Specific meta threads on this board and elsewhere are deprecated. If something is really important or urgent it may get its own sticky, otherwise post in here. I notice a bunch of other threads here were unstickied. I was going to mention that as being a problem (too many threads stickied so only 3-4 "regular" threads can be on the first page). Guess that's not a problem now. Not many go off the first page of the index I think, and a few of them were pretty similar anyways-- >>5428 >what's the "recommended" or "best" browser for 8moe? TOR. What reason is there not to use TOR? It's built on Firefox which is one of the main browsers used to debug. Only time TOR is trash is if you're on mobile because then you can't post pictures from it (because even torproject gave up on phonefags, I think?)--

I haven't gotten to make a big metapost in a while, so it's time. Site Status as of 5/11/2022 The war in Ukraine is fucking with our network connectivity and some users are experiencing occasional slowness. This was compounded by a very hefty DDoS attack that the site was sustaining via its TOR service for well over a month. The amount of flooding it was doing was using the same amount of bandwidth every ten hours that the site would normally use in an entire month. We have done what we could to mitigate both problems, including implementing a request flood filter in the caching engine, and forking that engine to also intercept TOR traffic. At the same time we increased our bandwidth allocation from the host. Compounding the above issues the site suffered a hack attack that compromised a low level account on the server and tried to mine some sort of crypto using our CPU power. This happened because the server OS upgrade from a couple months back changed a previously secure config file back to its defaults, and we had to root out the intruder. No sensitive information was compromised, and the server is now running an upgraded security suite including full SELinux. Last night we changed some memory optimization parameters on the server to free up more resources and prevent a recurring memory leak problem within Lynxchan's database. We hope this will improve site performance overall. The memleak wasn't critically bad but it was annoying. As of my writing this, 24 hours have passed and it has not returned. Transparency Reports Since the last meta post we have received >Zero subpoenas >14 DMCA takedowns mostly related to /interracial/ >Two cease-and-desists (part of two of the DMCA takedowns above) demanding that we disallow posting of certain images - hashbans were duly applied >Zero law enforcement requests >Zero warrants, and the warrant canary is still valid >Zero users reported under Global Rule 2 >Two complaints from the host, both over CP on /b/ >Numerous general complaints to the registrars and host, all of which were ignored by them ("muh evil 8chan" and "muh hatespeech on /pol/") Upcoming Goodies Lynxchan 2.8 is in the works, and we are adapting our frontend for it now. 2.8 will also include a much improved Mobile frontend for all the phonefags out there along with the usual big fixes and CSS tweaks '''. The catalog loading system is being rebuilt to allow the anti-DDoS filters to be adjusted more tightly. We are taking the first baby steps in a long path to implementing some site features in Web Assembly instead of javascript. Don't expect anything to come from this anytime soon, but its a thing. We are likewise looking at adding some new backend functionality, including a way to segregate the Proof of Work system between TOR and clearnet and some tweaks to make the POW less abusive to mobile users and anons on toasters. Site Rules Updates The Rulings Compendium has been updated several times over the past months to account for abuse, particularly CP-related stuff and moderation issues. Global Rules have not been directly affected. We had a lot of edge cases to sort through this cycle. Misc We're losing our best CSS and Javascript guy soon to the Curse of Gottajob. We are taking applications for coders proficient in either of these things to get 2.8 finished up as quickly as possible. Please contact codexx @ cock dot li if you would like to contribute. We've also revamped /site/ a bit and refocused meta discussion here for sitewide issues. Admin Acidman made a tour of the webring in the wake of the /hebe/ board's removal, requesting that the site be re-added in good standing since the purported reason for our removal was gone. We were roundly rebuffed, and the site will be proceeding ahead with our future plans without them. We are in the market for two more Global Moderators One is to fill a vacant slot and the other for another pair of hands. If you can handle doing mostly-boring hotpocketry by-the-book, aren't a dick, and enjoy pissing off spammers and CP enthusiasts, please submit your resume to 8moeadmin@protonmail.com Include: >8moe user account name (if any) >Any past modding experience here or elsewhere >Available hours Thank you for reading, and see you next time!

(13.58 KB 340x320 snibbenings.jpg)

REGARDING THE RECENT HABBEDIGS IN BUFFALO We are well aware of the shooter's declarations in his manifesto wherein he namedrops 8chan.moe. The globals and myself have dug through every post made in the last several days and can say three things with confidence: 1. The shooter did not originally post his manifesto here, it was reposted. 2. The shooter did not post or advertise his stream link here. 3. I was unable to find a single piece of evidence that points to him ever posting here, period. With that said, for the moment please consider the manifesto off-limits to post. While I am reasonably certain that the majority of it is free speech, I am not positive and can't find any clearly definitive declarations that such a thing is totally safe to host, especially at the moment. This will likely change as more info is brought to light but at the moment let's err on the side of caution.

>>5445 Posting a recent shooter's manifesto is about as illegal as posting mein kampf. It's only illegal to post if you're the one who wrote, because then those are your actionable threats. Don't be fucking retarded and pull an 8kunt.
>>5455 Kill yourself
Fun day, huh? We went over all the active posts on the site for the past several days, and it doesn't look like this mass shooting motherfucker has ever actually posted here. Current best guess is that he latched onto the similar name to lend "evil 8chan" cred to his bootleg manifesto. We're a small, mostly unknown site, our /pol/ is barely active, and "fedposting" about doing this kind of shit is unwelcome on every major board AFAIK. We're innocent. Even so, someone may raise a stink without fact checking first, so we'll keep everyone appraised of anything that develops. Emergency plans are at the ready.
>>5458 >Emergency plans are at the ready. You mean turning the .moe and .se domains into redirects to 8kun.top and going tor only?
>>5458 Turn the schizo referrer mode back on so that people can only access any board by clicking links on the front page. This will break most links as the reporters try to frame us.
>>5458 Wow it's almost like you rulecucked over "fedposting" and killed your /pol/ in the process for absolute no good reason because they can just fabricate whatever bullshit they want regardless of what you do. If only we had some former site that fell into this trap of prioritizing damage control over creating the best user experience that we could have learned from to avoid this.

I just noticed the "archive" button next to the catalog. What does it do? it doesn't redirect to anywhere.
>>5516 The IP doesn't match and the ASN is from a different state. Not every schitzo looking /pol/ post is a candidate for this kind of faggotry. Codexx ran a search for any records matching him (bans etc. too) and the globals did a manual search of the previous week of threads. Both turned up nothing. He might have intended to post here before the shooting like he stated, but for whatever reason he didn't. >>5526 That usually leads to a pre-formatted archive.is link. I know the devteam was working with the catalog a bunch lately so it may be temporarily broken.
>>5528 The "archive" button from inside the thread works just fine, which doesn't work is the archive button from the board's front page. It could be cool if there was an option to automatically archive old threads, archive today is fine but it doesn't store pictures which sucks. Another neat thing could be a catalog of archive today files.
(42.60 KB 808x503 Captura.PNG)

How come this board has banner with these dimensions? according to the board's manual 300x100 banners are only allowed and I tried to add a banner with a different dimension and it was resized. Speaking of which I'd like to use 600x200 banners on my boards since, would you consider making possible to add banners with different dimensions?

>>5534 Banner dimensions are enforced by the site's native CSS/theme. You can disable this by adding a .css file of your own to your board containing the following code snippet: #bannerImage { height: unset !important; } You just need to paste that into a .txt file, rename the extension to .css and upload the file to where it says "Custom CSS" in the settings panel of your board.

>>5557 It's already fixed on test. Just waiting for the next update. >>5556 We've offered multiple times to accomodate whatever the webring would want, but they've made it pretty clear that all of their complaints are just excuses, so I wouldn't expect them to peer with us any time soon. If you have a problem with that, express it to their admins and maybe they'll reconsider. Speaking of the webring, I should mention we will probably be temporarily disabling the addon soon. The existing one has a memory leak and isn't very maintainable. I've had plans to write a new LynxChan webring addon, but it hasn't been a priority. Since we're not really peering with anybody right now, it's going to be healthier for the server to take it down and put it back up later when it's actually functional.
>>5560 >all of their complaints are just excuses More like 8moe's fuck-ups have shown the true character of the site administration and that's not something that can be undone.

>>5564 He's just an angry pedo
>>5564 For one, Acid's complete inability to see that the pedos were always going to become a problem that couldn't be ignored (like they do on any site that lets them put down roots), and his glacier-slow half-hearted efforts to get rid of them once they did become a problem. He was warned many times by myself and others that things would turn out exactly how they've turned out, and how it could have all been avoided had they been shown the door immediately. >>5565 The opposite.
(316.34 KB 988x1230 1415984358982.png)

>>5567 Hotwheels ignored the "problem" for most of the time he ran the site, pic related being the last time he addressed your whining. It took the site being scammed out from under him by one of your ilk for anything to be changed. And even then it had nothing to do with how problematic hosting pedos is because it all happened the same day he lost control of the site, it was simply a case of Jim not liking something so he banned it, which he proceeded to do again and again over the years and is the entire reason why you're here and not there. In the case of this site the root of the problem was the BO of /b/ being a tripfag that refused to ban his fellow tripfags for ban evasion. The rule change was just a petty attempt by Acid to get back at the BO for disobeying him because otherwise they could've just gave him the finger and kept on as usual. Making rules against the only thing they were there to post was just a scorched earth tactic to kill the board and it clearly worked as you can see by /b/s PPH and the activity of this site plummeting back down to where it was at before the tripfags showed up here to circlejerk. Now I don't believe there was anything of value lost in getting rid of them but to say it has anything to do with some existential threat they posed to the site is just moronic. It's so obviously just a case of an admin swinging his dick around and arbitrarily changing the rules as a tool to get rid of users he doesn't like which I find ironic since getting away from that is the only reason why this site exists in the first place. Not that there's any shortage of irony on a site that calls itself 8chan which is supposed to be a free speech platform yet is full of people who are pro-censorship and has sitewide wordfilters in place designed to obfuscate certain discussion with of course some existential threat being the excuse to justify it.

>>5563 >>5567 The fuck-up wasn't the pedos; it was listening to the crybaby carebears at /v/ who incessantly complained about them (like you). So many said they wouldn't post on /b/ because of the pedos, yet now the pedos are gone and still none are posting there? Curious? There was never a pedo problem there; Acid is just skiddish because he retardedly signed for the site with his real information. The pedos were never a risk to the site; Admin was just looking for a good reason to get rid of them while trying to take none of the blame--and not for the first time, either >>5568 >In the case of this site the root of the problem was the BO of /b/ being a tripfag that refused to ban his fellow tripfags for ban evasion. I refused to ban anyone for ban evasion, because ban evasion bans are retarded. It had nothing to do with any sort of bias or "protecting the tripfags." For example, Zonz was being witch hunted for underage despite him never having said his age anywhere on the site, and I stopped that despite Zonz actively shit-talking me and trying to have me removed^^ It's the principal of the thing. The only thing the host cares about is that you have nothing on your site that they don't want to host. You don't need to witch hunt to keep them happy; just delete what breaks the rules. It's really that simple. The Admins themselves barely know what goes on in their site, and yet they claim that the host is watching everything the happens, tracking names to ensure perma-bans are sticking? LOL! My removal was only another step towards this site's anti-free speech movement, and a return towards the dying GG circlejerk that it was meant to be. Discussion of pedophilia is only allowed on /b/ board according to Acid (>>>/site/4721), and yet it is a banned topic on /b/ ; pretty clear message there^^ "It's not free speech if it's only the speech you like." > Making rules against the only thing they were there to post was just a scorched earth tactic to kill the board and it clearly worked Because not only the tripfags left, but most posters. Turns out not many /b/tards like posting on a rule-cucked board, especially when the majority of the users are ban-deleted. /b/ should be only the global rules, and even push the limit on the global rules (my opinion), yet the current /b/ has a plethora of extra rules and mods censoring even text posts that hurt their feelings? SAD! Activity begets activity, as it always was, and there is little reason to post here compared to elsewhere as it is-- Acid himself said he doesn't care about PPH or PPD, so that's just how it goes. Enjoy the censorship, or post to Kohlchan if you want something with a little more freedom of speech. Now add my banner: >>>/site/5341 ?
>>5569 Tripfags and attentionwhores in general are the only people you can effectively ban for ban evasion. Acting like it's some principled free speech position you hold is a blatant lie, you only took a stand against Acid's retardation the moment it started impacting your tripfag circlejerk because that's all you ever cared about. Your speech is in no way impacted by not being able to attention whore at the same time so if free speech was really your concern you could've just forced anon on the board to fix the problem and carried on with the valid excuse that you can't know whose ban evading and whose not. You didn't do that because your concern was circlejerking with your tripfaggot friends so instead you just spit in Acid's face when he told you to get rid of one of them for breaking the rules and as a result lost your board and caused the rules to change across the entire site to ensure you'd never have a place here again. Your impact on this site has been a purely negative one from beginning to end, from leading the herdniggers that have a vendetta against one of your tripfags to come here and incessantly spam non-stop for the entire time you were here causing the old BO to quit to making /b/ all about yourselves and driving off all the anonymous posters in the process to leaving a barren fucking wasteland in your wake that makes the board unusable for anyone else because thats the only way to get rid of you. Quit acting like you were some benevolent force that was victimized by the big bad admin, you're a self centered faggot that got what he deserved, only it happened at the expense of everyone.

>>5570 >Your speech is in no way impacted by not being able to attention whore at the same time so if free speech was really your concern you could've just forced anon on the board Lol? Free speech on the board could be preserved by taking away the ability for people to use names to express themselves? Are you retarded? >so instead you just spit in Acid's face when he told you to get rid of one of them for breaking the rules No one broke any rules, as I've explained before. Where in the rules does it state you're not allowed posting pictures of people you know in person? There was nothing wrong there to warrant a ban, and even still when Admin said he wanted it cut out I cut it out. No need for a ban, no need for a witch hunt, no need to even mention it again after it was nixed in its entirety, and yet here we are. And I made it clear 7 months ago that I don't ban, and neither Admin told me I needed to. And now after I've been removed, Codexx claims there is some mod manual that says where bans must be made, but he doesn't know where it is so we are waiting on Parias to point to it (2 weeks now, waiting, maybe so they can edit: https://8chan.moe/.static/pages/moderation.html to say it?). But, no, nothing there. It only became a problem when Admin wanted a reason to ban the pedos and to try and take no blame for it themselves-- > from leading the herdniggers that have a vendetta against one of your tripfags to come here There were here before I became a mod. In fact, they are a large part of why I pushed for Board Owner (so that I could ensure one of them didn't get it, as Darwin was also trying to claim it). I didn't lead them here; they've been here. Chai didn't want to deal with them which is why he started coming on less and less until the point where he just wanted to hand the board off to someone who would deal with them (after Vampy tried and failed in less than a day, losing his mod from Chai). So? >driving off all the anonymous posters I invited plenty here. Even if you cut literally every single name/tripfag out, the board was more active than it ever had been when I was running it. There is an obvious reason for that; can you figure it out? It's the same reason those anonymous posters have left to other boards-- >thats the only way to get rid of you. lol > Quit acting like you were some benevolent force that was victimized by the big bad admin Plenty of other places to post. Admin can run his site however he likes. Why should I care, really? It's evident by how quickly the board dies that they made the wrong decision (at least by view), but maybe they are happy with it? I even asked them both if they were fine with the level of censorship on the new /b/ (ie: deleting text posts that hurt the feelings of Vampy and the local retards); Acid said nothing, and Codexx said he didn't care. So this is how it is: back to being dead like when Rain was in charge of it. That has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with how the board is being ran right now-- Also, my removal was the decision by Parias who had been absent for like 5-6 months, and who had no idea what was going on from the thread he posted full of lies: >>>/site/5219 ; both other Admin agree the only reason for my removal was refusing to enforce bans. Parias is clueless at best, and a liar at worst--
>>5571 From pretending that not being able to identify yourself is somehow negatively impacting your ability to speak to pretending that you became a mod the moment you got here and that the herdniggers were here before then so it couldn't possibly be your fault it's clear you're just going to lie through your teeth about everything. Nothing you say can be taken at face value just like nothing Acid says can be taken at face value, you're perfect for eachother really, a couple of disingenuous avatarfags that constantly make a point to identify themselves on an anonymous platform and lie right to the face of anyone that questions them. I will admit though I was wrong in that screencap when I said you'd bend over backwards to accommodate any new rules thrown your way, at the time I assumed you'd stand for nothing at all when in reality the only thing you were willing to stand for is attentionwhoring on an anonymous imageboard. I'd rather have a BO that stands for nothing than one that will only stand for something that's totally antithetical to the point of imageboards so good fucking riddance either way. However you were also wrong when you said you'd relinquish the board as even when they "stomped the pedos" in an effort to get rid of you you still proceeded to hold onto the board for days doing absolutely nothing and causing the herdnigger spam to fill the entire catalog as a result. They had to take the board away from you by force and give it to someone who would at the very least clean up the spam rather than let it go to shit out of spite. What a surprise though that after you lost the board and left with all your tripfaggot friends that all the herdniggers spamming BRK threads left right along with you, it's almost like they were only ever here because of you in the first place.

>>5573 You'll never make your core gamergate demographic mad just like Jim will never make his core qresearch demographic mad. You both pander to one group at the expense of everyone else and that's why you both fail at being 8chan. That the only people willing to set up shop in this shithole are people who are just as insufferable as you are is more of a reflection on you as a person than anything else. Is it possible to program these kind of polls? they are really useful to in several situation, for instance when deciding what movie anon is livestreaming this night. >>5572 >the herdniggers were here before then so it couldn't possibly be your fault it's clear you're just going to lie through your teeth about everything. Silvia's right about this part. He learned about 8moe's /b/ after one of the herdniggers (possibly Patch since he's the one who owns a spambot) flooded various imageboards with links to 8moe, including a porn-centric imageboard that Silvia frequented and that shut down days after the spam (which is one reason why Silvia didn't leave even after having his jailbait thread locked). >>5575 Ask them which add-on they're using for polling so it can be installed here without having to develop something from ground.

Just a heads up there's a schizo poster on >>>/fur/ that seems to becoming more and more unhinged. I took him for a troll and then when it seems like he was serious just a crank but he seems to be ramping up the crazy now. See >>5570 According to him he even mailed a letter to Rand Paul. He also posted a textfile in a dropbox link (see second pic) containing the passage >I've tried to make amends for years. It's not happened, it will not >happen. The fandom does not want me in it, and I have reached a point >where I no longer with to be part of it. I don't want your forgiveness >anymore. I want you to go fuck yourselves. You want to hate me, I'll >give you a reason to hate me. I'm not sure if this is a "quitting the fandom" post, a suicide note, or the preamble to a manifesto. So just be aware of and monitor the situation.

Firstly, does 8chan have a .webm board or something of that nature? I want a replacement for 4chan's /wsg/. Anyway, that's not why I came here. I've come to make a radical suggestion: If Mods = Gods, I think OP should be a Titan. I think OPs should be able to request from a board's managerial staff (i.e. BO and mods) janitorial powers over their own thread, for a given reason. If someone wants to make a thread for Non-Lewd depictions of a character, they should be able to have that without having to deal with any trolling spammer. People wanting a "white women" thread shouldn't be forced to tolerate spammed black women. If OP had janitorial authority, localised entirely onto his own thread, this wouldn't be a problem. My biggest concern regarding this idea is the OP abusing this to just turn his thread into a political safespace however that's why the powers have to be granted. Another concern is some kind of glitch that causes a mere OP to attain janitorial powers over the entire board. I'm convinced such a feature would not be implemented correctly at first. Also, janitors should be able to review what OP has done. If OP pruned or permitted a post in non-compliance with his stated reason(s), the janitor or mod should be able to strip OP of his power, reducing the thread to a normal thread, ripping OP out of his decadent nest and casting him out into the cold world that we know, and endure.
(1.59 MB 1200x1313 frwg.png)

As I posted this on a bumplocked thread, I repost it here. It's a french translation of the LanguagePack.json. Would be nice to be added. I think it's pretty well translated but if a french speaking anon want to give a review it would be nice. Also, delete >>5609 please as this one is just a draft.
>>5647 If OP had jani powers over his own thread it would evolve into even more drama, retarded rules being enforced and circlejerks
>>5649 Yeah, I think it's a good idea but, now that I think about it, I think it has to be restricted to just dump threads (e.g. image-dump threads). I don't see much potential for drama in an image-dump thread where OP is Jani. Also, again, all managerial staff can see what OP has done and can determine whether or not he's abusing his powers. There's no way a responsible BO and mod-team would grant Jani-powers to someone that wanted to discuss an e-celeb or something. In fact, just in case the OP and BO may be friends and so OP may in fact get those Jani-powers through nepotism, it may be best to force an indicator that the OP has Jani-powers. Not even nepotism will allow OP to establish his circle-jerk.
>>5646 Is the onion still under DoS? I noticed it its very slow. I can provide some help and advice to mitigate that if you have somewhere I can contact you. If they are creating a bunch of circuits, draining bandwidth, making a ton of requests, etc. it should be simple.
>>5650 > I don't see much potential for drama in an image-dump thread where OP is Jani. Someone posta a picture OP doesn't like, OP deletes it, people complains, they derail the thread etc etc etc.
>>5651 I was scoping out out earlier and it doesn't look like a DDoS. We upgraded the site bandwidth by a factor of 10 a while back, after agreeing we could afford it. It just looks like the Euronet is getting fucked on again.

>>5646 >>5654 It looks like the CP spammer's current MO is that they're spamming a post and then immediately using archive. to archive it. They made at least 4 snapshots during their attack last night.
>>5656 Not the first time someone's done that. We just send the offending archive link to the archive.is admin and let him know a CP spammer is in it. They'll delete the archive when they see the notice and confirm it. It takes a mod all of 2-3 minutes to report any number of tainted archives (ctrl+v all the URLs), so its never a big deal.

>>5712 Just because the .onion version is down, that doesn't mean you have to access the clearnet version without Tor.
So I've figured out the problem with Tor. Because of the war in Euroland a LOT more people over there are using the Tor network to communicate, and the network is badly congested. If you try Redchannit it will be much faster than Tor Browser because it is hosted in a different datacenter but within the same country. It connects to the site via 3 short hops on Tor, whereas your Tor Browser from the US will make 5 long hops, which will lose a lot of traffic and be very slow. Redchannit's caching engine is similar to the one used on the main site and will also make it appear to load faster. The relevant point is, Tor is overloaded in that part of the world and there's nothing we can do about that.
>>5736 Odd, because during the past days Redchannit has been just as bad as Tor. The page loads after one minute, but getting the daily captcha and posting (with and without files) are completely fucked, with connection errors everywhere.
>>5738 I'm not saying Redchannit is good per se. But when I compared its connection to the server versus trying to connect directly with Tor Browser is was nearly twice as fast. Still slow and shitty, but twice as fast relatively.
>>5740 >I'm not saying Redchannit is good per se Neither did I. I'm saying that Redchannit has been experiencing the same problems of the main onion address and can't be used as an alternative as you implied in your previous post.
On what basis does 8moe reject or accept AV1 webms? Some of my webms go through while others don't and I have no idea why, mpv and FF/Chromium can decode them fine. This isn't even limited to webms I encoded myself over the years, it also happens to youtube rips.
Does .swf files allowed ? I can't post'em anymore. >A file had a format that is not allowed by the server. I have uploaded .swf files by the past (tested with the same ones return error).

Is it possible to have a new posts counter like pic related? I think it's quite useful to improve slow boards activity since I get notify every time one post is done and I can answer as fast as possible. The screenshot is from a lynxchan based board, so It's pretty doable. https://bandada.club/blog/
>>5751 +1 Good idea
Is it possible to allow .cbr and .cbz files? those are format for comics.
>>5746 MIME Type, primarily. Although encoding could be a contributing factor. If the file is being explicitly rejected as a format not allowed by the server then it's most likely the former; if it fails to generate a thumbnail, or the file is eaten entirely, then it's possible FFMPEG is failing to return a thumbnail due to encoding issues. If you have a file, upload it to a file upload service (catbox, anonfile, cockfile, etc) and then link it. I can examine the MIME and the file's structure to determine the problem. I should mentioned that AV1 is still a relatively new format with minimal browser support, and the spec is a moving target (or it was last time I checked), and I can't promise it will be bulletproof until the spec and FFMPEG decoders are. >>5748 All of them used to work, and now none do? We haven't removed anything from the allowed MIMEs list to my knowledge. I just tested an SWF file and it had no problems uploading. If it's selectively allowing some SWFs and not others, then I would ask the same of you: pick an upload service and link it here, stating the file does not upload but you believe it should. I can identify the problem that way. I'll speak to Stephen about some clearer debug outputs for MIME issues. >>5753 Yes. Can you use an upload service to send examples? >>5751 Their implementation relies on the webring plugin to check for new posts. Ours is currently disabled pending an investigation into memory leaks and potentially a complete rewrite. I will keep the idea on my to-do list, but it's not really feasible at the moment without a latests posts API.

Do we have enough boards to host Hunger Games like we used to do back on old 8chan?
If it deleted most of the threads from my board accidentally Is it possible to make a rollback to recover them?
>>5761 Depends on when you deleted them and whether you did anything else with them. If you deleted the threads less than 3 days ago you can retrieve them from the trash. The Trash Bin is accessed through the [Manage Board] button > Trash Bin button > then select the threads > and finally click on Restore to bring them back. If you can't find the threads it means that the trash bin has already been emptied. In that case only administrators will be able to restore your threads from a backup of the site.
Forgot to mention, if this is something that has just happened, you can tell me the name of your board and I'll bring the deleted threads out of the trash bin.
>>5763 This is my board >>>/recuerdos/ I wanted to set 20 pages for my boards and accidentally put 20 threads only. I just checked the trashbin and it's empty. I changed the board configuration two days ago, and didn't notice my mistake until now.

In my opinion it is better to delete the post normally and then ask a member of the global staff to remove the images completely, but it is possible that the admins will give different instructions.

It runs like shit because a) some faggot has been doing heavy DDoS attacks to the site through the onion address for days. b) the Tor network is congested in the "Slavic zone" (where 8moe's servers are located) due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Because of these external factors, the onion domain works well at certain times and becomes almost unusable at others, and there is really nothing left to do but wait for them to resolve themselves or hope that the admins come up with a magic solution.
Acid, is it possible to restore posts from a cyclical thread? I'm asking since I posted in the E3 Minus E3 thread that I noticed that a large chunk of the posts made during the Xbox/Bethesda stream after the ARK 2 trailer weren't archived. My post: >>>/v/622235 The archive of the thread in question: https://archive.ph/CNiqQ I'm interested to see if you can help considering that archiving these threads is an important thing for me and I really hate it whenever a large chunk of posts from a cyclical thread isn't saved.
>>5802 Aaaah I see now, it's just a way to list custom rulesets. I was being retarded and thought it was some sort of extreme word filter like automatically banning people who posted that content. Thank you anon.
>>5808 No, posts that expire naturally (threads falling off catalog, posts falling off cyclical) skip the trash bin. On the off chance a full site backup is taken while those posts are live, they COULD be restored... but the engine will quickly realize the thread is over the cyclical limit and purge them again. If archiving posts is a concern, it's generally recommended to not make the thread cyclical. Obviously this is up to board owners and not users, but you can generally lobby for a thread to be one or the other. >>5807 We're discussing options both long-term and short-term, but there is no magic bullet. The nature of Tor gives us little control over the network. We had to wait 2+ minutes for pages to load via the .onion when testing. That's not usable but there's also not a lot of options to fix it.
>>5803 >>5804 There is a cap of the maximum number of posts per hour. This is based on the max number of posts allowed before a bypass expires and the flood timer. We cannot set it directly, as it is derived from these two other values. Sometimes these values get updated without concern for the hourly limit. I'm not sure the other admins are even aware of the formula. I'll see if I can either override the limit or at least raise some awareness. That said, the limit should be fairly generous. If you're making 15+ posts per hour then you're probably on track to burn through your bypass in a few hours, anyways. But there are legitimate places you might want to make a burst of posts, especially during E3 season, so I definitely think we could improve this or maybe even eliminate it.
>>5807 Regional congestion in tor does not exist, because relay selection is bandwidth weighted, and not tied to any specific region. The circuit up to the rendevous point on both ends will be traveling through completely different countries/regions. So, it is just getting ddosed. At least I got my answer, thank you. Hopefully the admins fix that shit. A hidden service (.onion, not some shitty redditchan proxy) is essential for accessing the site.
>>5810 Well that sucks to hear that it's impossible to restore the posts that fell off the thread, but is it possible to change the maximum number of posts for a cyclical thread or have a unique limit for certain events like the E3 streams? If that's possible then I'm hoping that incidents like these will be avoided in the future when it comes those types of threads.
>>5810 >We had to wait 2+ minutes for pages to load via the .onion when testing. That's amazingly fast compared to the times that I've been getting on the onion.

But in general it can be summarized with the following points: – The owners and users of several of those sites hate Mark (owner of 8/v/) and Acid (co-admin of 8moe) for personal reasons. – The relation that 8moe has/had with pedophilia (especially when /hebe/ was active) scares the users of some of those sites – The extension is fucking garbage and the 300+ 8moe boards flood the lists of every site that adds it (can be checked by visiting sportschan.org) – Some users feared that 8moe would "cannibalize" their communities by having "a more recognizable name". – Underage b8 engaging in autistic tribalism (this was more noticeable some time ago, especially among the various /v/ and /b/ of 8moe and webring).

This is not really true, it's more that an user can easily create a new board on 8chan, claim to be the admin and get Acid to backup their entire board from the webring site to 8chan, or use external tools themselves and achieve the same effect. Thus if both 8chan and the webring site have the same board name, and users see that 8chan is a more active site as a whole, they'd probably go there instead of the original site. By the way I know I am repeating myself but is there a way to manually change a board from SFW to NSFW and vice versa? Or a way for spoilered pictures to be kept out of the homepage?

Minor Announcement We're pleased to announce that 8moe now has a completely functional automatic backup system running on our own independent hardware. The system backs up the site's media content and Lynxchan databases to a quadruple-redundant array of 8TB storage drives, and updates those backups 5 times per day. A secondary, failsafe backup supports the main one to ensure that we don't lose the data if one or more of the backup drives die. It also automatically diffs deletions to make sure that no errant CP or other bullshit finds its way into the backups. The system runs on its own independent server that we colocate on our own hardware far away from the main site, so even if 8moe's datacenter gets literally nuked by Russia then we have everything needed to begin restoring the site immediately. This also guarantees that, in the event of any data loss from a bug or catastrophic damage to the server software such as from a hack or virus-type event we would lose at most a few hours worth of content. This system has been running in the background on its "shakedown cruise" for the last week and has passed with flying colors. Previously our backup solutions have been rather ad-hoc. Typically pulling data onto smaller side-project servers that really weren't set up for that kind of operation. Now we have a beefy rig, and this site just got a whole lot safer.
>>5888 Neat. Nice trips btw.

>>5896 >Take the hint, liar. There can't be a single large community here dude this place is dead.
I'm not sure if I should post this here, in another thread, or make a new thread, so I apologize in advance if this isn't the right place for the following suggestion. Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to what I've read, to move threads from board X to board Y you have to do the following: 1. The manager of board X has to ask permission to the manager of board Y (I guess through the meta thread or through email). If it's a moderator, then I guess it has to tell the board administrator. 2. If the Y board manager agrees, then later you have to ask the chan administration to move it. 3. Finally wait for the thread to be moved. I think that the process could be speeded up a bit by adding an additional "Request transfer to another board" option in the post menu, which would work as follows: 1. When someone (any user) clicks on that option, it is asked to which board the thread/post should be moved to (obviously checking that the chosen board exists first). 2. The managers of both boards will receive a request like this: ** Manager of board X: "A request has been made to move >>4567894 to board >>>/Y/. Do you want to accept this transfer?" ** Y board manager: "Someone has requested to transfer >>>>/X/4567894 to this board. Do you want to accept it?" 3. The transfer would only be completed if: ** Both managers¹ accept the request, otherwise it will not be realized. ** Board Y is marked as abandoned so it would be enough for the board X manager¹ to accept the request and vice versa. The idea arises because I have noticed that the administrator and moderators of >>>/hispachan/ have closed threads that do not correspond to the board asking the participants to go to discuss elsewhere. I suspect that they must be too lazy to contact the appropriate person and it is easier for them to do it instead (or they just don't understand the procedure to move threads to another board). ---- 1. Instead of the managers they could also be the moderators of both boards.
>>5905 Your understanding of the issue is correct. Since boards are owned by the board owners, their permission is required to move threads. It's simpler in cases where one BO owns both boards, since they can give permission both to send and receive. I was actually in the middle of drafting a temporary solution. I'm sending an e-mail to the owners of Hispa boards offering to let them opt-in to letting globals move threads when reported. Long-term, I am actually planning to propose the same thing you did to Stephen Lynx: a "transfer request" queue. I cannot give an ETA on when such a feature would be available, but LynxChan 2.9 is about 4 months out, and that would be the earliest we could roll something out.
>>5906 >I'm sending an e-mail to the owners of Hispa boards offering to let them opt-in to letting globals move threads when reported. The indexes are not updated, so these boards should be notified: >>>/hispachan/ >>>/arepa/ >>>/hisrol/ >>>/mex/ >>>/col/ >>>/ac/ >>>/draw/ for the threads that the /art/ists were making before opening their own board. >>>/vt/ >>>/arte/ >>>/esp/ >>>/hm/ >>>/hispol/ >>>/pe/ >>>/sc/ (optional) >>>/cc/ >>>/choroy/ Technically it is not part of Hispachan, but it would be the closest thing to a regional board of Chile. >>>/phi/ Same as above, but seems closest to old Hispachan's /c/ (science) and /hu/ (humanities) boards.

I heard that some TOR site aggregators like Hiddenwiki had listed us as a CP site because of that shit, so it would make sense that someone would ask them to block us. We've reached out to the archive admins to try and clear it up.
>>5917 Pretty sure it's because you didn't nuke hebe in its crib
>>5919 But then he'd have to take responsibility for something, much easier to just shift the blame on someone else. /hebe/ wasn't removed because he wanted it, it was because the BO quit. /b/ wasn't nuked because he wanted it, it was because the big bad service provider told him so and that's that. God help the mexicans because with this sites track record they'll be getting deported any day now. Or maybe an 8kun style rebrand is in order only this time we're selling out to the mexicans instead of the schizophrenic boomer republicans. All you'd have to do is sell dragon ball Z merch and rake in the dough. What about /v/ you ask? Fuck /v/, delete /v/.
Could anyone give me aquick summary of the /hebe/ and /b/ drama please? I was there but didn't really paid a lot of attention to it, I was mostly on /co/ and /v/ only around that time.
>>5921 Sure, I was a volunteer on /b/ when it happened. See, we had the child diddlers contained to a singular thread which was set to cyclical to stop them from leaking onto other threads, every posterior thread they made was merged with it and any pictures of real children deleted. But naturally, pedos are the kind of people that you can't give a inch cuz they'll take a mile. And so they did, constantly trying to test the boundaries of what was allowed by posting pictures of children, which then devolved into them spamming not just /b/ but also /v/ with children pictures as well as ceepee. This caused them to try and make their own board, /hebe/ after then infamous 8chan one. But since Acid didn't allow them to post real pictures of kids, it slowly but steadily died since these vermin don't want to discuss anything, they just want to share kids and make lewd remarks. Eventually the BO tried making his own site, which failed miserably and died. As /hebe/ was left abandoned and constantly spammed by bad faith posters requesting CP, it was permanently locked. It should have never gotten that far, but alas libertarian beliefs got in the way.
>>5922 This (and the deletion of their cyclical because it was impossible to control) caused them*
(505.48 KB 513x674 Asuka smoking cos.png)

>>5921 Pedos came here and appealed to free speech for a place to talk. One of them created the /hebe/ board, basically underage jailbait like old 8ch once had. We let them have the board but with a restriction on no evocative images or other content that could get us in trouble via DOST and other dumb bits of law. They didn't like that, but they stayed and we allowed them to stay. That would have been the end of the story, except the board became a magnet for CP (big shocker there, but we had held out a little hope). Eventually global mods were doing more content removal there than the board's own staff. Some anon there wanted to get out from under the Global Rules so they went and set up their own alt-board called smolbox, which proceeded to get nuked off the internet for, you guessed it, CP. When the board owner of /hebe/ disappeared and abandoned it we locked the board and chalked it up as a failed experiment. Part of the fallout from this was some of the pedos from /hebe/ moving to /b/. Some of them had already put in a lot of effort spamming the site with pedophile "key words" trying to draw the attention of search engines and government bots in a pretty naked attempt to get the site shut down. /b/ became a pedo hangout until the BO there agreed to keep such discussion confined to a single cyclical thread, and to keep that thread clean of CP and underage lewds. And he did good for a while. But like before, more CP started getting posted and the BO refused to crack down on it when asked, so now /b/ became a CP problem. The situation came to a head when we received 2 host complaints, our first ever, over CP and both aimed squarely at the /b/ thread. We gave the board owner the option to either crack down and fix it, or tell them to leave. They left. The /b/ BO was already in the hotseat for letting the situation get so bad, and he wound up losing ownership of the board after a final warning and a final fuckup on his part - refusing to ban somebody who had earned a sitewide perma for related behavior. Since then angry pedos occasionally drop in to spam and whine. In a total reversal of reality like >>5920 there, they blame everyone but themselves, try to gaslight the staff, and try to act like they were somehow bullied or treated unfairly despite us covering for them in the face of angry anons and giving them many chances to clean up their act before finally saying enough. Their inability to take responsibility for their actions or exercise any level of restraint in their posting or reporting caused their undoing, and don't let any butthurt torposter and his army of (1)'s tell you otherwise.

>>5921 /hebe/ has been explained, but perhaps more on /b/ can help understanding. A year ago the board was owned by Chai. Who had continued his predecessors policy of a single pedo cyclical thread wherein no illegal content could be posted, but where they could endlessly talk about how much they wanted to fornicate with minors. But then he grew tired of the gig and left. One of the vols (a pedo himself) was made the new BO. Initially he continued the same policies for about a month, then got rid of the cyclical and made the whole board basically a pedo free for all. All the regular posters left. And it become a cesspool. By january it was more or less unmoderated, well locally anyway, and the globals were the sole source of content moderation. One by one they got burned out looking at cp all day long. Then the major break. In april? Or maybe it was February one of the pedos began posting pictures and video of his daughter, then got her to record messages saying hi and I love you and stuff for the pedos on the board. She'd say their names (they were all namefags) and the one global left alerted everyone to the fact that we were now hosting a child groomer, and that was only ever gonna end one way. So the BO (a ruskie tranny) was told to either ban the guy or quit. He didn't believe in bans he said and that's why globals were doing all his work. And then he said he wouldn't quit or moderate. So he was fired and replaced. He then made several new boards which were instantly closed down (except one where he promised to actually mod but for the record he still doesn't) and now routinely surfaces on a daily basis to post cp and bitch about how unfair it is that we follow the US law. I guess if we got shut down he'd be happy. The new BO of /b/ instituted an absolutely no pedos allowed policy. Not even discussion. The board was never nuked. But all the pedo threads were removed. If you check you will see it still has a full catalog. Since then old anons have been trickling back and it is returning to where it was almost a year ago to this day. And that's the story now. Oh and also with the pedos gone there was a global drive and the staff is once again more or less full up. Any questions?
>>5924 >Their inability to take responsibility for their actions or exercise any level of restraint in their posting or reporting caused their undoing Viewed in the context of how many men are raping women you would come off like a rabid feminist who thinks men needs to be held to account for every rapist that exists. You can't solve rape by teaching men not to rape just like you can't solve people posting lawbreaking content by teaching them not to. If this expectation could be met then you wouldn't need moderators in the first place because everyone would agree not to break the rules. You just set everything up for failure by creating expectations that couldn't be fulfilled and then act like you gave it a chance when they can't miraculously make everyone on the board fall into line and agree not to break any of your patently retarded rules. When it comes down to it this post of yours is just a long drawn out admittance that you did it because you hated having to actually moderate your site and thought you wouldn't have to this way. Well how did it work out for you, is your CP problem solved now? Or are you still having to regularly delete it just like 8kun has to with no one even using it anymore?

>>5924 >more CP started getting posted and the BO refused to crack down on it when asked, Worth mentioning that, if this is how you phrase the sentence, that you mention you're not talking about actual CP, which was always deleted. I never refused to crack down on rule-breaking content; what I refused was to add more to what you consider rule-breaking content. Half of Instagram photos were already considered too lewd for 8moe, so being more stringent would be pointless. As I've said before, many mod actions (unlinking files from the mod view) don't even show up in the logs, but ignoring those I still had more uptime on the board at every point^^ >Then the major break. In april? Or maybe it was February one of the pedos began posting pictures and video of his daughter This was happening since day 1 and breaks no rules. Globals only started to care about it when they were looking for a reason to ban the pedos from the board, knowing I wouldn't enforce the bullshit permanent ban they placed on that user (who, again, broke no global rules)-- >And then he said he wouldn't quit or moderate. Where did I say that? Even minutes prior to being removed I was moderating the board as can be seen by the logs-- >He then made several new boards which were instantly closed down None of my boards have been closed down, and all of them were made months ago. >>5931 As board owner, I was to uphold the global rules, which I've always done. Admin decided to redefine what falls under the global rules with the excuse that the host/registrar was unhappy (which is an obvious excuse, but pointless to argue in either case). The "ultimatum" was that I start enforcing the new definition of the rule or /cat/ would have to find a new home. I chose the latter as I felt the posting rules were already becoming too censored as it was, and Admin used that opportunity to globally ban posting minors entirely (which I expected but it was not discussed). So, yes, I did my job^^ As for the refusal to ban people, I was open about that since month 1. Literally. Both Codexx and Acid were aware that I didn't ban or enforce bans because I told them in the IRC when we were talking about it during my first month. I mentioned the mod manual didn't say I was expected or required to ban and they neither had a problem with that then nor have they updated the manual since--

Nice job breaking the board guys, can you go through your code and make sure places where you have a button have their type correctly set to "submit"? It's breaking some board management pages.

According to the server logs it looks like the post markup parsing subsystem (LateX, code tags, redtext, etc. etc.) threw an unhandled error and Lynxchan gagged on it and died. Gave me a bit of a shock too. I'll keep an eye on it until Codexx fixes it, I've already notified him.

>>6164 We didn't change anything related to UIDs. I asked Mr. Lynx if Lynxchan 2.8 did anything that might alter their results and he just told me no. Maybe the rest of the Hispachan users weren't being accounted for yet due to the maintenance downtime or something. Either way, WEW.

It might be related to this, too: https://allchans.org/2022/06/26/8chan/ The Overchan did a really nice writeup about us the other day and we're notied as the second most popular site after 4chan, which would have the right timing for this UID buff if a bunch of people saw it and decided to visit. Its times like this I wish Lynxchan tracked incoming referer's, just so we could see where the spike was coming from. But privacy is still important, so I get why Stephen never added that. That and guessing is kind of fun too. Whatever the cause, I hope it sticks around. My personal goal has always been to get to a consistent >100pph and >1000 UIDs. Anything above that is gravy, but those are my metrics for "the site is truly successful."

>>5589 >>5592 Can this be added to a Board? So they can do polls?
>>6209 Doubt it, since that's the front-end code only, you would need also some php to store the results inside a database and then some JS to take that data and output it on the webpage. Acid already said he's interested on adding polls, you can just use strawpoll in the mean time and if you really wnat it to be embedded on your board you can work around it embedding the poll on your board using javascript.

Hi Codexx, can you add /hispachan/ to thread moving program. And also enable JS in the board.
>>6222 >>6220 Do you take requests? I was considering making a custom CSS for /ac/ on September too, September 20 is the anniversary of Hilda which is basically the board's mascot so I wanted to make something with the show's color palette. >>6222 Thank you very much anon, hope you the best. Also yes&yes, independance and revolution too, and you can add Blue, Brown or Black in it (I believe only 3 colours would look kinda strange). And also can the logo of the eagle can be added to the background?

>>6224 Sure, I can add it to my pile. >>6225 >And also can the logo of the eagle can be added to the background? Yes it can. See pic attachment for preview. There are two options for the background movement: You can either have the wallpaper move along with your scrolling (Most common option) or have them be static where the background remains frozen. I recommend sticking with tile wallpapers because their seamless pattern works a lot better for different screen sizes & keeping up with many posts, but if you want something else, let me know.

Nevertheless, I'm not sure how much this would impact on performance.
>>6246 Damn, is not really possible? Even with some custom JS? We really want to have multiple spoiler images for /av/ board

Any plans to appoint a bilingual admin to properly communicate with the increasingly taco userbase?
>>6319 From what I know, they wanted to appoint Hispachan's admin but since he was paranoid he didn't accept (according to the leaks he though Acid was planning to ovethrow him as soon as their boards were moved or something); which is fine because he's a discord tranny and a attention whore, we are absolutely better without him. In regards of proper comunication, google translate works just fine.
>>6320 We did in fact invite him to be our 4th admin, and to oversee the Hispachan communities in that role. any chance we could get an overboard blacklist? I get that we have multiboards now, but they only show you boards that you specifically add. I want the reverse. I wanna see posts from all boards except the ones I add to the blacklist. Thanks to all the spanish posters being here now using the overboard is difficult, but I still wanna see posts from obscure boards that I might not know about if they ever get posted to. >>6331 Theoretically possible, since the same framework that works for overboard and multiboard could generate that list. I proposed it to Stephen many months ago. That said, an Undo Merge button would be nice, and I will make note of it to Stephen.
>>6332 It was a very lazy OP anyway tbh. Just make a new one BO.
>>6333 >>6336 Nope. You are stuck here forever.
>>6337 Damn, i really have to nuke the board?
>>6338 Nah, I'm just joking. To delete your account you need to the User Account page, then scroll to the bottom of the page. There will be a Delete Account button that needs you to confirm it by marking a checkbox. That will delete your account, leaving any board you own unmoderated. Is recommendable to get a new BO for your board (or at least locking it in its respective board settings before) before deleting account. Depending on how much content was there you may want to delete the board instead. What's your board and why you want to delete your account, by the way?
>>6340 In that case, transfer the board to your new account, delete the old one, and then make a thread on /mex/ and related boards asking for a new BO. Try to get in contact with the staff of other boards, they should be your first option in these cases.

Minor Announcement In addition to the completion of the 2.8 upgrade, several improvements have been made to the site's caching engine. >The infamous "slow down asshole" traffic throttles have finally been fixed, providing an extra layer of protection from Denial of Service attacks on our resources. <If you start running into Error 429 its because you're making too many requests. Slow your browsing and don't try to open more than a couple threads at once. >We have the preliminary work done on a system that could cache ALL media on the site and serve it faster. This is obscenely powerful and is in an un-deployed early Alpha state until we're sure we have the resources to do it. >The .onion service now has a custom token-bucket system that allows for "fuzzy" traffic throttling of individual tor users, which reduces the impact of the bandwidth-sapping DDoS attacks that have been going against the service over the past half year. >I conceived and wrote a rather complex little program in BASH that integrates some of the caching engine's defense systems more directly with Lynxchan, tested it, and deployed it live on the server last night. This program will become the core of a new backend defense layer against all types of threats. <This program is in beta, but I'll be testing some of its core functions on the site starting today, and wheedling at improvements to it for a protracted period of time before expanding it. It opens the door to some very exciting ideas, including our own Cloudflare-style automatic "bunker mode", common bot-detection and blocking before their traffic even sees Lynxchan, and filtering of traffic based on the server's backend bandwidth spike detection.

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to bring this up or if there is a more appropriate one, but if not feel free to move the post to where it belongs. Would it be possible to restore the >>>/mex/ threads? It turns out that Anon8S (the board owner) had an autistic breakdown transient stupidity attack and ended up deleting the entire board (just like Loan the terrible fag* did shortly before Hispachan's closure). As you can see in the screenshot, the owner barely notified that he was going to close only one day in advance, which didn't give time to organize anything and he didn't even wait a few days for someone to offer to take over (either as BO or helping in moderation). Apparently it is now being owned by another user named mxoot, so I will notify him about this to see if he or another mexicanon has anything else to say about it. By the way, isn't this kind of bullshit against the rules or something? Because if it is the case, Anon8S should be banned from the chan, or at least I recommend to keep an eye on him since he is also the owner of >>>/av/ and I think a volunteer moderator in >>>/arte/, so there is a risk that history could repeat itself in one of those boards. * How do you say "puto" in english? Is fag a correct translation?
>>6344 Damn, I told him to find a BO before getting rid of his account. At this point restoring from backups is the only way to bring old /mex/ back. And judging by new /mex/'s trashbin, the new BO doesn't give a fuck either since he gave away his account in the very first thread made. I'm not and admin, but IMO it would be for the best to transfer /av/'s ownership to somebody else in case it is owned by the same BO, which I doubt since that guy only mentioned /mex/ in his previous posts. >* How do you say "puto" in english? Is fag a correct translation? Faggot is more accurate in this case.
>>6344 Posts have been restored. Some files may be missing. It's late, so we will address it over the next few days. >isn't this kind of bullshit against the rules or something? Intentionally destroying communities or trying to drive users apart violates Global Rule 3, and deleting a board on short notice with no migration plan would fit the bill. I will look into their ownership of /av/m but all the admins will need to agree before action is taken. In the meantime, I've grabbed a backup of /av/ in case it also disappears.
>>6344 >>6345 Hello. Can please be /av/ out of this? That board has anything to do with this I dont wanted to be BO of /MEX/ anymore. I put a message here that I wanted to delete my old account but cant since it says "You cant delete while being BO" so i not wanted to nuke /mex/ and asked for help but I received 0 response from admins. I put a thread about it in /mex/ but received 0 respondes for someone to be a BO neither from /hispachan/ so I dont really got options. And in all honestly that system of "You cant delete accounts while owning a board" is dumb, even in Facebook you can delete your account while owning a page Also no im not a mod in /arte/. >>6346 I dont wanted to destroy it neither trying users to get away, I.put my message here but only an anon response me and give me the idea of that thread in mex (wich again failed to find a new BO)
>>6347 >I dont wanted to be BO of /MEX/ anymore. I told you to transfer the ownership of /mex/ to your new account so you could safely delete the old one. Right above the option to delete the board there's a field for transferring it to a different user (in this case, your new account). Besides, you only waited a single day before deleting the board when finding a new BO takes its time. You should have waited a couple of days more, at least to give the users of /mex/ enough time to organize and move somewhere else (or claim the board).
>>6348 I see, that what you say about it is true, I dont thinked about that. I recognize that was my mistake, sorry. It was not a malintentionated thing.
>>6347 >>6349 As >>6348 said, it takes time to find a new BO, and ideally you will test them out as a moderator first. If you really want to ditch a board, you can always transfer it to an admin, who can then put it up for claims. There's not really much of a reason to delete an account. If you no longer want your e-mail in our database, you can always remove it. If you let the account sit for a few weeks without logging in, your board will become claimable.
>>6350 Oh rlly, I dont knowed that. Damn, that would have been helpfull to know. There was any mods in the board so I dont haved anyone to become the new BO.
The site is unusable over TOR and has been for days. Every time you try to post it gives you a connection failed error.
Ever since yesterday I've been getting this error when trying to post on 8chan.moe from tor browser. It results in a "connection failed" error, but 8chan.se works fine. >>>/v/648245

>>6353 Something unusual has been going on with the way Cuckflare handles site resource files when you're coming in over Tor. I started looking into it last night, and will continue until we figure out what the cause is. I have some theories, but at least one possible fix would mean a DNS change that knocks the .moe domain offline for a day or two so I want to exhaust other options before considering it.
>>6354 It happens on the onion site too. And the .se domain sometimes.
>>6354 Alright, thanks. It was a bit worrying that no one else had mentioned it since it meant no one was probably aware or working on getting it fixed.

>>5423 Ever since the major update a few weeks ago, there has been one problem which has started and has remained. I post with a mobile device and most of the time when I have selected a file to upload, and then attempt to return to the screen that shows the thread, I will have a blank screen error (pic. related). Sometimes if I press the back button on the browser, the blankness goes away and the thread is displayed properly. However that doesn't always work and sometimes trying to go "back" just takes me to the page previous which is unhelpful. Then I can select the desktop version in my Chrome browser, and I never have this error happen with desktop version, though the site doesn't look as good using that. It's kind of an unfortunate bug as it wasn't happening at all before the big update, and it sometimes causes me to have to re-enter all of the text when I have written before selecting a file to upload. I'm going to try resetting my cookies for the page and see if that helps, but otherwise I'm going to need some changes from the people who make this site run. Thanks.

None of our testing for the mobile interface has had this problem. >>6345 >judging by new /mex/'s trashbin, the new BO doesn't give a fuck either since he gave away his account in the very first thread made. For the moment I would give him the benefit of the doubt (it's not like he can screw it up even more). With any luck he could transfer the board to someone who is interested. >>6347 >>6349 >>6351 I just want to emphasize that the user in question has been all day trying to justify his idiocy in >>>/hispachan/31288 (and maybe a little in >>>/av/3970) before "accepting" his mistake. I'm not a mod or a board owner, but seeing his overreaction to what happened and his attitude of a tantruming child, I strongly recommend the administration to reassign >>>/av/ to someone more competent. And to avoid this kind of problems in the future, maybe a system could be implemented to automatically backup a board just before it is deleted, which would be kept for X amount of days (maybe a month as they do in Wikia FANDOM when they close a wiki). Something that would help a lot in this kind of situations, like when someone deletes his board for being drunk and regrets it the next day (in theory it could happen).
>>6362 >All this attention whore drama KEK you really are butthurt because /av/ anons tell you to fuck off uh? Stop being a fag and move on, even in the /hispachan/ thread anons have to stop your schizo rant, I accepted my mistake by not waiting more days but youre just being delusional now

IF YOU SEE ERROR 429 OR 401 WHILE BROWSING OR POSTING, READ THIS The 429 Error is caused by loading too much of the site too fast. If you want to open more than 2 or 3 threads at a time, wait several seconds between batches - or alternatively, let the broken threads load and then hit F5 on each one after a minute. The 401 Error is now under our control, and will be triggered by the bandwidth controls on incoming Tor traffic. The bandwidth throttle on Tor is limited to 16MB uploads, one half of the clearnet. This limit frees up the Tor network pipe and allows for normal Tor users to access the site even when the Tor-DDoS is hitting us. If you are 100% certain that you have encountered either of these errors in error, post the following information: >Timestamp in format day month 24hr UTC time [19 July 00:00:00] >Clearnet, .onion, or Tor via clearnet >Board and thread number >Whether you were uploading a file or not, and if so it's file extension and size >Any other errors you encountered during the above, no matter how minor I will check the logs of your timestamp and see if anything went amiss.
>>6364 Ey Acid this is not so-related but I have experienced an error where captchas dont load or not apearse making imposible to post, this was a couple days ago so I dont know if that is already reported/fixed. Also, there is a way to deactivate entirely the captchas in a board? Bc I have them off in /av/ but sometimes the site pop up a captcha to solve
>>6365 There is a mandatory captcha for sitewide posting once daily. That one cannot be turned off because its part of our anti-spam measures, and is probably the one you see. The reason captchas weren't loading sometimes lately is because of a Denial of Service attack coming over Tor. A new defense was added to the Tor connection two days ago that should help. >>6343
>>6366 I see. Many thx
>>6364 Yeah, it's still broken. Trying to make a post with the text "test" at https://8chan.moe/test/res/2003.html and http://4usoivrpy52lmc4mgn2h34cmfiltslesthr56yttv2pxudd3dapqciyd.onion/test/res/2003.html both still shat out a 401 error when I tried them just now.
>>6369 Thank you. I've now confirmed that there is a problem there on our end. I'll work on it.
>>6369 I've identified the problem and hacked in a quick patch. It should be working now. I'll apply a proper fix this weekend.
>>6316 2 years and I never saw that. I will test it this way: I make a thread with password, leave it for 8 days, then try deleting it with different device.
(217.42 KB 424x444 curvy skank.png)

Can we have the filter-on-catalog feature from old 8chan back? If you don't know what I'm talking about, you were to be able to filter a thread by shift-clicking it on 8ch/8kun. It's a small feature but I'd like to see it again. It was nice not having to dig through the index to hide a thread you didn't like.
>>6364 Seems it might have worked but I still get hit by the quota exceeded issue which makes the whole damn thing unusable for 10 hours straight. >The bandwidth throttle on Tor is limited to 16MB uploads, one half of the clearnet Do you really think 3 faggots uploading 32mb files is the cause behind any kind of stress? I think this will just annoy people like me that reencode videos for the best quality in the given maximum file size for anons to enjoy.
>>6376 >quota exceeded issue Can you give more detail about this? We don't have anything that uses the terms quota exceeded.
>>6377 I have been bitching about it for literally months and someone said it was going to be fixed come 2.8. I have no idea where the original post with info went, it probably got lost when a bunch of stickies got removed or something. tl;dr: >open tor browser >fresh session, no cookies or other preexisting information >go to 8chan.moe >change theme to Tomorrow >browse a bit and find thread to post >try to post in thread >nothing at all happens, the post just doesn't go through without any error message >open developer console >see pic related. It fixes itself after what seems like a random amount of time. It could be 5 minutes, it could be over 12 hours, usually close to the latter. Using another route doesn't make any difference and it happens on all boards. If I copy the thread URL and jump to .se I can post fine.
>>6378 Just for clarification, just like it takes a random amount of time to fix itself sometimes it doesn't happen at all.
>>6364 >The bandwidth throttle on Tor is limited to 16MB uploads, one half of the clearnet. What's the point, you're just pushing tor users off the gateway and onto the clearnet site.
(80.03 KB 500x578 Asuka didnt happen.jpeg)

>>6380 The bandwidth between the onion and the Tor network rendezvous is only around 500kbps due to limitations on the Tor network itself. The bandwidth between your exit node and the clearnet is the same as that of the main site, which is a lot, because exit nodes exit onto the normal Internet to get here. There's throttling on clearnet Tor too but its a different kind - anti-scrape and anti-DDoS and not a bandwidth constriction. >>6378 I have never seen an error like that before. Uncought DomException sounds like something in the javascript itself. Make SURE you have us whitelisted in privacy plugins and such and I'll forward this to Codexx. That error isn't anything that my cache is generating.
I would like to see the feature of embedded videos return from old 8ch.net. On the Internet Archive's archive of 8ch.net, the only images that aren't removed are thumbnails from YouTube videos that were embedded into the post. I wish to make use of this behaviour of the Internet Archive. My idea is to introduce "YouTube Thumbnail Reaction Images." I would have a bot take a reaction image and create a 5-second plain video of that reaction image. Then, the video is uploaded to YouTube. If the video is then embedded into my post, its thumbnail can be used as my reaction image. I would basically be using YouTube as a trusted site for hosting my reaction images. Since my reaction image is a YouTube thumbnail, just as they already do, the Internet Archive staff would not scrap the reaction image. It would improve the readability of threads kept in the Internet Archive archives in the future.
>>6383 Supporting the idea
Ey acid, I want to ask about something I have seen Idk why this happens but sometimes I see a post made by another person but it says (You) like that post was made by me. Also, do you have an email to contact You?
>>6387 Link the posts where you think it's happening. It's probably just some retarded /b/ namefag being zany.
>>6381 >>6382 I haven't had time to look into it too much, but it's a default tor browser install set to to the most permissive security level. I briefly looked into the local folders mentioned in some of the links but I didn't find anything that looked like cached stuff from the site, which makes sense because it's supposed to prune all site data after it shuts down so the cause being the site having filled whatever storage quota the browser might have doesn't sound completely likely. I also don't see anything that looks suspicious when checking how much offline data the site is using. Either way it's a clue I could continue following when I have some more time, thanks.
>>6389 I dont remember the exact post but it happened in /hispachan/ and /v/

I'm certain that it's possible to use Pastebin for image-hosting. I fear that it's possible to go further and use Pastebin for file-hosting in general. If my theory is correct and attains mainstream acceptance, Pastebin will either abandon their laxness towards text-contributions (e.g. demanding 2FA) or just outright shut down their servers. I would like to suggest an improvement to my YouTube Thumbnail idea. I call it, "The Notepad Trick." Have you ever noticed how, in Microsoft's Notepad, you basically have no restriction on what you can and can't open in Notepad? However, if you open a mere image in Notepad, you get this gibberish text. When you copy and paste this gibberish into another notepad window, and then save it as the filetype of the original image, you should get the original image back. The problem however seems to lie in the copy and paste process itself. I suspect that copying too much at once creates problems. One would need a bot to rapidly copy and paste chunks at a time. Then, I think it could work. If it's possible to store images in text-form, it's possible to store images on pastebin. My suggestion, if my untested theory is true, is that every post with embedded images is modified so that, at the bottom of the post is a pastebin link to a text-form of the image. Even if the Internet Archive refuses to archive 8chan's images, they'll have no problem archiving the pastebin links. Imageboard Archive sites can also use the pastebin links to regenerate the original images. Layers of Obfuscation I'm certain that it's best the Pastebin admins do not realise that their service is being used in this way, and so some layers of obfuscation are necessary. 1) Master Pastebins. Some images are going to be so big, that uploading these multi-MB images in text-form could be noticeable. I advocate for breaking the image-generated gibberish up into chunks and then pastebinning the individual chunks. If one wanted to regenerate the original image, they would then need a bot to check the pastebin links so it can stitch together the original gibberish to be converted back into the image. This means having a master pastebin, that in itself is full of pastebin links to the various data pieces. It would be bad to link directly to the master pastebin from 8chan. The 8chan site should automatically generate a master pastebin, even for a single pastebin link, and then use the Wayback Machine to save a screenshot of that master pastebin, and then link to the archive-screenshot, not to the master pastebin itself directly. 2) Randomised upload order. The data-chunks should be loaded to pastebin in a randomised order with an assigned number and the master pastebin would contain the data-pastebin links along with numbers alongside them so that a bot can know what order to stitch them back together in. 3) Randomised chunk size. No data-pastebin should exceed 1MB. Nonetheless, they should also not be the same size. It should vary from chunk to chunk to avoid detection. This was a lot of text, based off of an untested theory. Oh well.

Is it possible to add the option to spoil just one or selected pictures from a post. Right now as a moderator I can just put ALL the pictures from a post as spoiler which is a bit counterproductive specially if said post only contains one NSFW picture while the others are just fine. >>6460 I think you can do that CSS only but I don't remember the trick right now.
>>6456 This seems like a neat idea. Never considered it before. Nevertheless, I'm not sure how would you be able to add the text inside the thread, that just would duplicate the size of the images hosted on 8moe.
>>6461 Oh rlly? And the sound effect is also possible?
>>6462 Oh, no. The text wouldn't be inside the thread at all. The pastebin link to the text would be inside the thread. The text is on pastebin, not 8moe. 8moe would temporarily possess a copy of the text so that it could be uploaded to pastebin, but once it's on pastebin and the link to it on pastebin is obtained, 8moe wouldn't need to retain its own copy of the text and could simply delete it. So yeah, after the text is successfully being hosted on pastebin, only the pastebin link to the text is in the thread. There's no need to keep the text itself on the server.

>>6472 On the one hand that could be handy in certain situations but on the other it just causes threads to devolve into "you posted from tor so your opinion is invalid" derails. Also a lot of shitters will post from a clearnet VPN anyway so that doesn't really help where you want it to.

>>6482 That's not enough info. Was it a local ban or a global one? When was it issued and by who? Bans issued by admins and global volunteers are labeled as *Global* in the logs, if that helps you to find it.
>>6484 The reason is "Is the /cow/ poster in the room with you right now?" and is not in any of the fucking logs.
>>6485 I found it in the internal bans page: >Reason: Is the /cow/ poster in the room with us now? >Board: v >Expiration: 08/06/2022 (Sat) 02:03:20 >Applied By: Alpharius That ban appears to have been given to the IP/ID you are currently using, however, it does not appear in either the public logs or in your private offense record. I consulted the situation with one of the admins, but he wasn't able to find the cause of this unusual behavior. In any case, the ban has been removed and you should be able to post again.
>>6478 If you see that you are banned then it is not a shadow ban. Sound like you are the one being paranoid. > not in my time zone. How is that relevant to your ban time? Is this is how murikan act when people don't use their standard?
>>5423 Hey acid, i have noticed that in the board /funkg/ is really common to get the "slow down asshole" and "connection failed" when trying to reply, making nearly impossible to post, why does it happens?

>>6468 >>6492 Also, email sended
>>6492 the site has been suffering heavy DDoS attacks of various kinds for weeks now. Tor users have been affected the most because it is not possible to block incoming connections through Tor without affecting everyone else. There are times when the site becomes completely inaccessible by Tor and extremely slow for everyone else. Anyways, the "429 - Slow Down Asshole" errors are due to the site temporarily blocking IPs that send too many requests at once, which usually happens when you open many large threads full of images. The blocking exists to reduce the amount of requests sent to the site to a manageable level and it goes away after a couple of minutes. The "Connection failed" and "Could not reload the CAPTCHA" errors are symptoms of this intentional blocking. The first indicates that the websocket (the green light at the bottom of the page that causes threads to update in real time) was disconnected by the site (although it can also happen because of other connection problems, in either case the indicator will turn from green to black or red); while the second one indicates that the connection to the CAPTCHA generator, which uses the relative time of your PC to generate the images, was lost, and returns a blank image when there is no connection (this is especially noticeable on boards where the CAPTCHA is enabled all the time, as here).
>>6494 I see, thanks!
>>6492 I'm not sure why, but that board is loading WAY more requests than normal. For reference, loading /v/ uses about 80 requests while /funkg/ is over 150 in the same timespan. They should check their CSS/js custom pages and make sure that lazy loading is working properly.
>>6496 Damn, why does it happens? And what I can do?
>>6496 I have a feeling their custom JS is at fault here.
You raised Pururin well, Mark.

I see some user reports being closed by someone named "dog"... who the hell is dog?
>>6512 Me. What's up.
I'm trying to post make a post on 8moe from Python because I want to connect some chatbots that I've developed in the past, so anons could talk to them. This is what I've working on so far: import requests page = 'https://8chan.moe/replyThread.js?json=1' json = { "noFlag": "1", "name": "abc", "email": "mal@domain.com", "message": "test message", "subject": "test subject", "password": "test password", "boardUri": "ac", "threadId": "1", "captcha": "" } r = requests.post(page, json) print(r.text) It outputs {"status":"bypassable"} so how do I bypass the captcha? also, how should I deal the captcha in general?
>>6514 I believe that indicates you need to send a cookie with a valid bypass along with the post data. You'll need to request a bypass, which will involve filling out a second captcha or solving a PoW problem if that setting is enabled. You don't bypass the captcha. The best you can do is pass the bypass captcha to a human to solve and post on boards that don't require a captcha. I have plans to look into/implement developer API keys to bypass captchas specifically for trusted bots, but currently we do not have this feature.
>>6515 Right, so I've been working on my example again. Here's what I've done so far: import requests page = 'https://8chan.moe/replyThread.js?json=1' data = { "noFlag": "1", "name": "abc", "email": "mal@domain.com", "message": "test message3", "subject": "test subject", "password": "test password", "boardUri": "tulinismo", "threadId": "1", } cookies = { "captchaid":"test1", "bypass":"test2", "captchaexpiration":"test3" } r = requests.post(page, data=data, cookies=cookies) print(r.text) It works just fine, it sends the message from the python terminal, I just had to add the cookie manually. What I want to do now is to send a file from python. The Lynxchan documentation says it "Accepts files" but it doesn't explain how I should send files. So how do I do it?

Various anons have requested a thread be moved to >>>/sm/ instead of outright being deleted by moderators due to its off topic content. I would appreciate the move immensely. >>>/v/568366

>>6519 Also, the login.html page is still displayed in English after translation.
>>6516 I believe you send a manifest of file hashes, and then the server will specify which ones it wants. You need to then submit the files. I think it's one TCP packet per file. The best way to see the exact format would be to submit a post with files and watch the network activity; you should be able to duplicate the format of that. >>6520 I don't believe the login page has been converted to use the new template system yet. >>6519 Text added by JS will not be translatable yet. I will work on a solution, but my short-term goal is to get anything that can easily be translated (text in already templated files) to be finished, and then to go back and clean up the rest. We have a dedicated Translation support thread now, also.
>>6518 If both Mark and Shotakot approve the transfer, we can do it.
>>6521 The login.html page is missing a piece of code: <script src="/.static/js/multiboardMenu.js"></script> Fixed translation languages.
